Heather Jensen
President
Dr. Heather Jensen has lived in Logan, along with her husband and four children, since 2003 when she joined the faculty at Utah State University as a clinical audiologist. Her favorite role has been the humanitarian healthcare hearing missions she has planned and participated in with the USU Doctor of Audiology students, helping those in need around the world. She was honored as the 2020 Teacher of the Year for the Emma Eccles Jones College of Education and Human Services.
Heather gained an appreciation for the performing arts as she grew up listening to her mother sing in the Utah Symphony Chorus in Salt Lake City. Her two daughters are members of Cache Children’s Choir and she is thankful for the opportunity they have to develop their musical talents.
Braun Khan
Vice President
Braun Khan is Assistant Professor of Double Bass and Jazz Studies at Utah State University. He has bachelor’s and master’s degrees in bass performance from Central Michigan University, and a Doctor of Arts in Jazz Studies and Bass Performance from the University of Northern Colorado. After completing his master’s degree, he taught courses in jazz theory at Central Michigan University and served as Community Outreach Coordinator for the School of Music.
He is the recipient of several DownBeat awards for Best College Big Band as bassist with UNC's Jazz Lab I, Outstanding Vocal Jazz Ensemble as a vocalist with UNC's Vocal Lab, and for Outstanding Small Ensemble Composition for his original composition Airplanes. In 2014 he was also awarded the Hal Leonard Scholarship from the Jazz Education Network for exceptional talent and potential in jazz performance and education.
Prior to moving to Colorado, he served as music director at a non-denominational church for 10 years. During that time he also organized a concert series which featured artists such as Billy Hart, Vincent Herring, Peter Zak, Tom Knific, and Phil Palombi. When not busy performing and teaching he enjoys spending time with his wife and five children.
Steve Broadbent
Treasurer
Although not born in Utah, Steve considers himself a Cache Valley native after moving here at the age of seven and living in Logan ever since. Steve is a product of Logan Schools and USU with a BS in Personnel Management and an MBA. His working career started with First Security Bank (now Wells Fargo) and he was the assistant manager of the new branch that opened on Main Street in front of the Cache Valley Mall. After five years in the banking industry he took a position in the central budget office at USU. His 38 year career at USU ended in 2014 when he retired as the Finance Officer/Business Manager in the Cooperative Extension Division of the University.
Steve is married to the former Janet Balls of Wellsville and they have four married children and seventeen grandchildren; not a dud in the bunch. He sang for 10 seasons with the American Festival Chorus, and served on that board for three years as treasurer. Steve also served two terms on the board of directors for the USU Community Credit Union. A year after retirement he and Janet served a two year mission in the Philippines for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
Kimberly Lott
Secretary
Kimberly Lott graduated from Utah State University with a Bachelors in Family Finance. After living in California for 8 years, she returned to the place she loves most, Logan, Utah. She is a loving mother to her 3 children, loves volunteering with her son’s soccer team and now with her daughter singing with Cache Children's Choir. Kimberly is an avid reader and loves spending time with her family.
Chalyse Measom
Parent Association President
Chalyse Measom graduated from Utah State University, where she met her husband, Jake. During the past decade, they have lived from coast to coast for her husband’s medical training and are excited to be back home in Logan. Chalyse proudly claims Cache Valley as her home and is deeply invested in the community and making positive contributions.
Having been in choirs since the age of 4, Chalyse is passionate about music and the community that it brings to all involved. Her twin daughters are in their second year in Cache Children’s Choir and love singing with their friends. Chalyse loves singing and playing piano as well as camping, skiing, reading, and spending time with her family and dog.
Amy Atkinson
Amy Atkinson is a Cache Valley Native, born and raised in North Logan, Utah. She joined Cache Children’s Choir in its second year at the age of 8 and remained a member until the age of 15. This foundation of choral music cultivated a life-long love of music and of the arts. Amy was honored to be trained by the original CCC director, Bonnie Slade, from whom she also took private vocal lessons in high school. Amy’s private flute teacher and Cache Children’s Choir Orff-Schulwerk specialist, Leslie Timmons, also played a major role in developing her love of music and her musical training.
Amy went on to major in Vocal Performance at USU and has sung in choirs almost all her life. She is currently a member of The American Festival Chorus.
Amy currently resides in her childhood home in North Logan with her husband and children.
Karla Axtell
Karla Axtell, a native of San Diego, has lived in Cache Valley since 1978 when she began her studies at USU and completed a BFA in Piano Pedagogy while raising her family. Karla has taught piano for many years, accompanied Cache Children’s Choir with Bonnie Slade for over twenty years, and served as accompanist for numerous soloists and community events, including for The American Festival Chorus under the direction of Craig Jessop. She has participated in many community benefit concerts, accompanied the Green Canyon High School Choirs, and performed on the piano and organ in the Tabernacle Noon Concert Series.
Karla has previously served on the Eccles Ice Arena Advisory Board, Cache Children’s Choir Board of Trustees and Board of Directors, and the Caine College of the Arts Advancement Council. She currently serves on the board for Somebody’s Attic, a nonprofit organization supporting CAPSA and The Family Place, and on the Cache Symphony Orchestra Board of Directors, where she oversees their youth concerto competition.
Karla is married to Bruce Axtell. Together they have six daughters, two sons, and 25 grandchildren.
Dave Gilbert
Dave Gilbert is proud to be a part of the Beverley Taylor Sorenson Arts Education program in the state. He is an instructional coach in music at the Logan City School District overseeing six elementary schools. His goal is to provide a high quality music education to children. His teaching responsibilities include mentoring elementary music educators, providing professional development, designing instruction, and helping in each classroom. He received a BM in music and a BS in elementary education at Utah State University. He completed the Kodaly certification course at BYU, and is a member of the Utah Orff Chapter.
Wendi Hassan
Wendi Hassan is Executive Director of the Cache Valley Center for the Arts (CacheARTS) in Logan, Utah, the management entity for three Logan City owned cultural facilities: the Ellen Eccles Theatre, Bullen Arts Center and Thatcher-Young Mansion. Wendi is a Utah Change Leader and holds Master’s Degrees in Arts Administration and Policy (The Ohio State University) and Business Administration (Utah State University). Wendi’s relationship with Cache Children’s Choir started in 1993 when she coordinated the parent newsletter. All four of her children came up through the choir and one of her favorite memories is directing them in the choir’s production of Benjamin Britten’s Noye’s Fludde in the Kent Concert Hall.
Lyndon Loosle
Lyndon Loosle is a native of Smithfield, Utah. He attended Sky View High School and graduated from Utah State University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Accounting. He has worked as a professional accountant for over 43 years in industry and public accounting. He spent the last 32 years at the USU Space Dynamics Laboratory and is currently serving as the Chief Financial Officer. He is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, the Utah Association of Certified Public Accountants, and is a licensed CPA in the State of Utah.
Lyndon and his wife Annette live in Smithfield and are the parents of three children and seven fantastic grandchildren.
Miles Jensen
Miles P. Jensen graduated from Utah State University (B.S., 1972) cum laude. He then obtained his Law Degree from Northwestern University (J.D., 1975) and served on the Editorial Board of the Northwestern Law Review. He has been an Associate and Partner with Olson & Hoggan, P.C. since 1975 and his current practice areas include Real Estate, Business, Municipal Law, Corporate, Litigation, and Estate Planning.
He has served on numerous boards that include the following:

He is married to Janet Jensen and has 3 sons and 7 grandchildren. His personal interests and hobbies include tennis, travel, hiking and reading.
William Peterson
Bill Peterson was born of goodly parents in Logan, Utah. He attended Logan City Schools and graduated from USU. Bill is married to Angie Hurlbert, whose parents opened the first McDonald’s in Cache Valley.
Bill got involved in the McDonald’s business 40 years ago, and he and Angie own six restaurants in Cache and Box Elder Counties. He says, “We love what we do, and we love the communities in which we do business. We love supporting the schools and the arts and are huge Aggie fans and supporters. We love doing business here. We love the many friends and awesome relationships that have been made over these many years. We love our customers! We love our managers and our teams! We consider our customers and employees our family and our friends!
“I have been in this business for 40+ years, and I have come to realize that it's not the number of burgers we have sold that matters. It's the number of positive impacts we have had in the lives of our people here and throughout Cache Valley and Box Elder County! It's great to be in business in such a wonderful community with great business, school, and community leaders.”
Bill and Angie have three children and six grandchildren with two more on the way. Bill loves serving in his church, traveling, playing games, attending sporting events and live shows, and eating with his family. He also loves hiking and biking and is grateful for e-bikes at this stage in his life. “… and I am looking forward to working with Cache Children’s Choir.”
Sue Sorenson
Sue has resided in Logan most of her life and is a graduate from Logan High School. Both her Undergraduate and Master’s Degrees are from Utah State University. Sue worked for the Logan City School District for 39 amazing years. She taught 4th grade at Adams Elementary and was an Elementary School Principal at Ellis Elementary. She finished her last four years at Wilson Elementary. Sue was a strong supporter of the Beverly Taylor Arts Learning Program at the schools where she worked. She believes music enriches lives and that children should have opportunities to participate in musical experiences. She has served on the Cache Valley Center for the Arts Board and is currently on the Cache Valley Transit District Board, Logan City Forestry Board and is the Ellis Neighborhood Chair. Sue enjoys a good chocolate chip cookie!
Leslie Timmons
Leslie Timmons is Professor Emeritus, Music Department, Utah State University, where she was responsible for the flute studio and elementary music education. She is flutist with American Festival Chorus Orchestra, Logan Canyon Winds, and duo with clarinetist Nicholas Morrison. She has been the Orff Specialist with Cache Children’s Choir since 1991.
Leslie has worked extensively as an Artist-in-Residence with the Utah Arts Council, Utah State Office of Education, and the Beverley Taylor Sorenson Arts Learning Program. She directs national certification courses in Orff Schulwerk at USU each summer and is a clinician for workshops across the country.
Her degrees in music education and flute performance are from Michigan State University. She was awarded a Fulbright grant for post-graduate study at the Orff Institute/Mozarteum in Salzburg, Austria and was active in establishing the first Utah Chapter of the American Orff-Schulwerk Association. She has served on the national boards of the American Orff-Schulwerk Association and the American Recorder Society. She has been honored as Utah Music Educators Association’s "Outstanding Music Educator” and “Outstanding Elementary Educator” and was inducted into the Utah Music Educators Association (UMEA) Hall of Fame on February 4, 2022.
