Position Overview

Cache Children’s Choir (CCC) is seeking an enthusiastic, skilled, and child-centered educator to serve as Director of Caprice Choir, one of five ensembles within the organization. Caprice Choir serves children in Kindergarten and 1st grade (ages 5–7) and provides a joyful foundation in singing, musicianship, movement, and music literacy.

The Director of Caprice Choir is responsible for planning and leading weekly rehearsals in collaboration with the Artistic Director and within CCC’s established curriculum framework. The ideal candidate will demonstrate excellent musicianship, strong classroom management skills, and the ability to create an engaging, joyful, and nurturing learning environment for young singers while modeling healthy, age-appropriate vocal technique.

The choir season follows the academic year (late August–May) and includes 2–4 formal performances/events and 2 family sharing concerts annually.

Qualifications
Qualified candidates will have:

  • A bachelor’s degree (or equivalent training/experience) in a relevant field

  • Experience teaching music to young children and effective classroom management skills

  • Knowledge of choral pedagogy, vocal development, music literacy, and age-appropriate repertoire

  • Ability to model healthy vocal production and teach musicianship in an engaging, age-appropriate manner

  • Training and experience in Kodály, Orff-Schulwerk, and/or Dalcroze 

  • Strong interpersonal, communication, collaboration, and organizational skills

  • A commitment to fostering confidence, citizenship, joy and belonging through music

Responsibilities
The Caprice Choir Director will:

  • Lead weekly rehearsals on Mondays. Must be available from 4:00–6:30 PM

  • Attend monthly staff meetings (time TBD)

  • Foster a safe, welcoming, inclusive, and joyful rehearsal environment

  • Plan and prepare engaging weekly lessons aligned with CCC curriculum goals

  • Teach foundational singing skills, musicianship, movement, and musical expression appropriate for young children

  • Select developmentally appropriate repertoire in collaboration with artistic leadership

  • Prepare singers for family sharing concerts, formal performances, and other CCC events

  • Collaborate positively with CCC faculty and staff

  • Prepare and maintain classroom materials, shared equipment, and rehearsal spaces

  • Provide supplemental online learning materials and/or rehearsal recordings to support learning between rehearsals

  • Communicate regularly and professionally with parents and caregivers

Compensation

Caprice choir is held once a week for 45 minutes. Compensation is $300 per month (Sep - May). If a second 45 minute session is needed due to enrollment numbers, the second class will be the 45 minutes directly following the first class and will also be compensated at $300 per month.
